The Designers Behind Walking Liberty Silver Rounds

Walking Liberty Silver Rounds are artistic as well as valuable. Investors depend on these .999 fine silver rounds to preserve wealth and build a robust portfolio. Buyers also appreciate the artistic value of Walking Liberty Silver Rounds.  Two leading designers are behind the beauty of these coveted silver rounds.

The Basic Design
The obverse side of Walking Liberty Silver Rounds features an image of Walking Liberty.  The original image that appeared on a half-dollar silver coin was designed Adolph A. Weinman.  He also designed the popular Mercury Dime. Between 1916 and 1947, the United States Mint produced Walking Liberty half-dollars. The silver rounds are privately minted and not used as legal tender.

The Obverse Design
The reverse side of Walking Liberty Silver Rounds features a perched eagle. This familiar design has been featured on numerous United States Mint coins. The perched eagle made its first appearance in 1795 and is still popularly used today. Modern designer Heidi Wastweet is behind the image of Walking Liberty on modern silver rounds.

Adolph Alexander Weinman
Adolph A. Weinman was a sculptor and architectural sculptor born in Germany who arrived in the United States at the age of 10.  Weinman was an assistant to Olin Warner, Charles Niehaus and Daniel Chester French before he opened his own studio in 1904.  He worked as a medalist and sculptor designing small bronze reproductions of large sculptural works.

His Legacy
Weinman was a member of the New York City Art Commission, the National Academy of Design, the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the National Institute of Arts and Letters.  From 1927 to 1930, he was the president of the National Sculpture Society.  Weinman is fondly remembered as the designer of the Walking Liberty half dollar.  His design still appears on the obverse of the Mercury dime, medals for the Armed Services of the United States and a silver bullion coin. It was also an inspiration for Walking Liberty Silver Rounds.

Heidi Wastweet
Heidi Wastweet is a studio artist and medallic sculptor for private coining mints.  Besides creating images for coins, she also creates bas-relief bronzes and hand held art medals.  Much like a coin, there are two artistic sides to her story.

Her Art
Wastweet has worked on everything from half inch coins to large monuments.  She learned her creative craft primarily from the museums and books of the world rather than art school.  Wastweet decided to be an artist at the age of 6 and started sculpting at age 18. After working in mints, she is now a freelancer working out of Washington.  Wastweet designed the amazing Walking Liberty image on the silver rounds of the same name.
